THE SOUTHERN & SOUTH WESTERN BIRMAN CAT CLUB – 8.9.07

 MRS ANNE GREGORY

A really enjoyable show expertly managed by our wonderful Show Manager, Jackie Pell. The welcome was warm and friendly and the hospitality excellent. Congratulations to Teresa Cook for the delicious home-cooked lunch, really tasty and very welcome. I was also very grateful to Lorraine for stepping in to steward for me when my booked steward was at home, hand-rearing her kitten. The quality of the cats was really high, making judging challenging but very enjoyable.

AC BIRMAN GRAND PREMIER, MALE

1 BALHARRIE’S UK GR PR HOLLYMOON ROCKAFELLA, 13C1, MN, 19.3.1996

A very handsome and balanced Birman of excellent type and style. Strong head with breadth of skull and rounded contours. Medium ears spaced well apart. Full, round cheeks and a well developed muzzle with a good chin. In profile there was a slight dip and the nose was of medium length. Large eyes, almost round and an excellent depth of blue. Gorgeous expression, really soft and gentle. Long body with excellent substance and muscle tone. Medium length legs that were sturdy with short paws. Tail was bushy and balanced well. Silky coat that was well prepared and presented. Excellent warm seal points and lovely contrast. He could have more ruff but that was seasonal. Some shading to the back but the roots were pale. Neat gloves and gauntlets. He was looking really good for his age and it was such a pity I could not award the Imperial as it was a Sanction Show!

2 ENSOR’S GR PR KHATIJEM LALIQUE, 13C4, MN, 8.5.2004

Another very handsome cat who was a top quality Birman. Excellent size and substance. The head had breadth and balance although there was not quite the breadth across the cheeks. Beautiful eyes of excellent colour and shape. The ears were of medium size but he flared them slightly. Very good profile and chin. Long body with strong legs and a bushy tail to balance. Excellent silky coat with a full ruff to frame the face. The gloves had a slight flick but the gauntlets were well shaped. Beautiful lilac points and a magnolia tone to the body. Excellent contrast. Shown in sparkling condition and with an excellent temperament.

AC BIRMAN PREMIER, FEMALE

1 WELCH’S GR PR MASCHENKA SHAMANDA, 13C2, FN, 8.6.1999

A beautiful blue Birman looking superb today. Excellent overall type and balance. The head had strength, breadth and balance with a sweet, gentle expression in those beautiful blue eyes. The ears were of medium size and were set well apart in the rounded contours of the head. Medium length nose with a slight dip in the profile. Full cheeks and well developed muzzle. Chin sloped away slightly. Long body with a firm, muscular feel. Excellent substance. Strong, sturdy legs of medium length. Bushy tail balanced well. Medium blue points. The body has excellent contrast with minimal shading and pale roots. Matching, immaculate gloves and gauntlets. Beautifully shown in sparkling condition and with a delightful temperament.

2 COLLINS CH & PR DUBROVA ROMANOVA, 13C1, FN, 30.3.1997

A very pretty female with very good type and overall balance. Short head with full cheeks and rounded muzzle. The chin sloped away slightly. Large, expressive eyes, almost round and very expressive. Medium length nose with a slight dip in the profile. A little small but a good weight for her size and everything was in balance. Lovely silky coat that was beautifully prepared and presented. Warm seal points. Warm body with a golden glow. Some shading but again, pale at the roots. The gloves and gauntlets were well formed. Excellent condition and temperament.

SP BIRMAN ADULT, MALE

1 COLLINS’ DUBROVA ALDE BARAN, 13C1, M, 26.8.2004

Oh dear! This male had absolutely no coat or ruff and was looking very “exposed”. He did, actually, have good size, boning and muscle. The head had breadth and the cheeks were full. Medium sized ears spaced well apart with the top of the head showing very gently rounded contours. Large eyes, almost round, set well apart and a good shade of blue. Lovely expression. Good body, legs and tail. The coat was silky but lacked length and was close lying to the body. Thin tail. Warm seal points. Good contrast to the pale beige body with a golden glow to it. Well marked gloves and gauntlets.

SP BIRMAN KITTEN, FEMALE

1 SPERRING’S MEADWELL LUCKLADY LEILA, 13C1, F, 7.1.2007

A very attractive female of excellent size and boning. At present she is at that “in between” stage where her head appears a fraction small in relation to her body. The medium ears were set well apart, but she tended to hold them a little high. Well shaped eyes, spaced apart and a very good blue. Sweet expression. Very good profile showing a slight dip. Well formed muzzle and firm chin. Long body with a firm muscular feel. Sturdy legs and a bushy tail. Silky coat with a pleasing ruff developing. The mask and tail were a little brindled. The gloves showed a little flick but the socks and gauntlets were fine. She did have a small spot but, as it was a Sanction Show, I did not penalise her for this fault.

RP BIRMAN KITTEN, FEMALE

1 ALLEN’S SNOSHU MOULIN ROUGE, 13C5, F, 17.12.2006

A very pretty kitten of promising type and overall balance. Good head with breadth of skull and rounded contours. Medium ears set well apart. Full cheeks and good muzzle although the chin slopes away a little. In profile there is a slight dip. Lovely eyes, large and almost round. They were set well apart and a good blue. Soft, gentle expression. She was a little small for her age but had muscle tone. Slightly fine legs. Tail was bushy and balanced well. Silky coat with the red points developing. The gloves were a little low but the gauntlets were well shaped. Lovely contrast to the pale creamy body.

NON-PEDIGREE – TABBY ADULT

1 LEWIS’S MC PEBBLES, SH MACKEREL TABBY, MN, 10 YEARS.

A very handsome senior Tabby with presence and style. He was calm, serene and very confident. Beautiful hazel eyes, with a depth of colour and excellent expression. Noble head with well set ears, making him appear very alert. Strong, muscular body with sturdy legs and a long tail to balance. Excellent coat quality, it was of medium length, fairly dense but close lying. Rich bronze agouti ground and dense black markings. Wonderful “Lord Mayor’s Chain” around his neck. Looking superb for his age, a great credit to his owner. Later Best in Show – many congratulations.

2 LEWIS’S MR TIGGA, SH TABBY, MN, 1 YEAR.

Another very handsome fellow and unlucky to meet Pebbles in the same class. Never mind – the potential is all there, as Mr Tigga was Mr Personality Plus! He later became the “Peoples’ Choice”. Excellent face with large, very expressive green eyes. Tall alert ears that gave him an inquisitive look. Very long whiskers and beautiful teeth – I could see them as he was miaowing at me all the time I judged him. He was a great conversationalist and was talking away to visitors most of the day - I am sure that is how he won everyone’s hearts to become their No. 1 Choice. He had a really lithe, muscular body with long legs and tail to balance. Excellent coat, really glossy and a rich tabby pattern. Wonderful condition and delightful temperament, a real character!

NON-PEDIGREE – AOC ADULT

1 LEWIS’S MC GYPSY, SH TABBY/TORTIE/WHITE, FN, 2 YEARS.

This female was a little shy but very attractive and well-balanced overall. I do not think she was a tortie tabby, the fawny/cream tones that were apparent formed the agouti ground of the blue classic tabby pattern in my opinion. The white was immaculate and she really was in sparkling condition with a satiny gloss to her coat. She had a beautiful face with large ears and such expressive green eyes making her look so sweet and gentle. Beautifully shown in excellent condition and with an excellent temperament.

AC BREEDERS KITTEN, MALE

1 COLLINS’ DUBROVA REMUS, 13C5, M, 20.5.2007

A promising baby who was a lovely size and feel for his tender age. The skull had breadth and the face was well shaped with full cheeks and a rounded muzzle. The ears were of medium size and set well apart. In profile there was a slight dip and a good chin. The eyes were large, almost round, spaced well apart and very expressive. Good tone of blue. Long body with a solid feel. Promising bone to the sturdy legs. Tail balanced well. Lovely silky coat with the points developing to a good red. The gloves were a little low but the gauntlets were excellent. Excellent condition and temperament.

AC NON-BREEDERS KITTEN, MALE

1 ALLEN’S CARAMLEIGH SPRINGTIME BEAU, 13C15, M, 21.3.2007

Friendly and affectionate kitten of excellent size and substance for his age. Good head with strength of skull and gently rounded contours. The ears were of medium size and spaced well apart. Very good profile showing a slight dip. Large, expressive eyes, almost round and set well. The colour could be a more brilliant blue. Muzzle developing. Long body with a firm, muscular feel. Strong legs and a bushy tail. Silky coat with a ruff developing to frame the face. I felt he could have had a little more show preparation, particularly on his stomach! The gloves were a little low but the socks and gauntlets were fine. Points still developing, but there was the red “M” on his forehead and some leg barring. Excellent condition and temperament.

AC DEBUTANTE NEUTER

1 BATEMAN’S MOONVIEW MACUSHLA, 13C1, MN, 16.4.2006

What a star! This young male was everything I would want in a Birman; he was of very good type, big, solid, cuddly, purry and affectionate! Excellent size for his age with strong boning and firm muscle. Massive but NOT fat! The head had breadth with rounded contours. Medium ears set well apart. Slight dip in the profile and good chin depth. Full cheeks and muzzle. The eyes were large, expressive but a little pale. Long body with excellent legs and tail. Lovely coat with a silken texture. Warm seal points. Excellent contrast to the body. Well formed gloves and gauntlets.

2 LOXTON’S INNUENDO FAT BOTTOMED GIRL, 13C7, FN, 30.3.2005

A feisty lady with a real Birman “huff” but no malice and was fine to judge. I would have liked a little more breadth to the skull. The ears were of medium size and set well. Fairly full cheeks and muzzle but the chin sloped away. Very good eyes for shape, colour and expression. Slight dip in the profile. Long body with good muscle. Sturdy legs and a bushy tail of proportionate length. Silky coat with hot cream points and good contrast. The gloves matched well. The gauntlets were a little short but well shaped. Excellent condition.

Thank you to all the exhibitors for entering their beautiful cats – you made my day!

Mrs Teresa Cole

The Southern & South Western Barman Cat Club Show

 8 September 2007

What a start to a show, I was greeted by a six foot tall purple pussy near the car park, dressed as a veterinary surgeon, who grabbed my hand and had me skipping to the show hall - did I feel daft?  You bet I did!  However, it was all in good fun and I later found out that it was my steward (Jane Carter) in disguise, so you can imagine what the rest of the day was like in her company.  Thank you Jane for being such a good steward, I thoroughly enjoyed my day and I hope you did too and I do hope you will steward for me again.  This show is always such a friendly event, in no small part to the hard working show team (headed by Jackie Pell) and the committee and I was delighted to be part of it again. Everything appeared to run like clockwork with everyone working really hard to make it an enjoyable and hopefully, a successful day.  The hospitality was first rate, the lunch was delicious and the goody bag at the end of the day was much appreciated.   The quality of the exhibits was first class and I handled some super cats during the day and I thank their owners for giving me the opportunity of doing so.

IMPERIAL – AC BIRMAN GRAND PREMIER FEMALE

This was a lovely class to judge as both of the girls entered were of the highest quality both were immaculate in their presentation but Bellissima just had the edge today, she had a super confident ‘look’ and the most regal of poses.

1. SPERRING’S  CH & UK GR PR MEADWELL BELLISSIMA – 13c1, 23.02.97  An absolutely stunning seal point girl of fabulous type with everything so well balanced 10 ½ years old and she looked amazing. She had the most beautiful sapphire blue eyes set in a really broad heart shaped face, medium triangular ears that were set wide, excellent nose length and profile, very full cheeks, a good breadth to her muzzle and a good depth to her chin.  She had a large and lengthy frame that was weighty and well covered, with sound boning to her limbs, large rounded feet and a fully furnished proportionate tail.  She was dressed in a wealth of coat that was the colour of well done toast and she had a large ruff framing her lovely face. There was an excellent depth and uniformity of seal colour on her legs and tail with just a hint of brindling to her mask. Her feet were beautifully white; they were well matched back and front with long gauntlets, the right gauntlet not quite as tapered as the left but matching in length.  Her condition and presentation was faultless, she absolutely sparkled!  A delight to handle and she thoroughly deserved her overall BIS win later in the day.  Congratulations to her owner/breeder.

WELCH’S  GR PR MASCHENKA SHAMANDA – 13c2, 08.06.1999   Another gorgeous girl who I have had the pleasure of judging in the past and today she still looked very impressive.  She had excellent type, a nice breadth of head and her medium sized ears were placed wide, good nose length and profile, beautiful expressive blue eyes, full cheeks and good muzzle width, ample depth to her chin.   She had excellent bone and body length, her tail for perfection could have been just a tad longer but it was well furnished. She was dressed in a beautiful soft coat that was very full and she had a large ruff, her body fur was glacial in tone with just a little shading along her back but it still contrasted well with her medium blue uniform points.  Her front gloves were scalloped and her socks almost matched, her gauntlets were long, rounded rather than tapered but her feet were lovely and white.  A beautiful girl with a superb nature who was shown in tip top condition.

GRAND – AC  BIRMAN PREMIER MALE

As with the girls these two boys were outstanding and I just wished I could have given them both the first place as there was not much to separate them,  I really had to split hairs to decide and perhaps on another occasion the placings could easily be reversed.

1.  ENSOR’S   GR PR KHATIJEM LALIQUE – 13c4, 08.05.2004.   A very imposing 3 year old Lilac point lad with such good type and overall balance, he had a large muscular and well covered frame with a  medium length bushy tail, medium length well boned legs and large round paws; his feet were all well marked and snowy white and his points were the softest pinkish/grey complimenting his wealth of magnolia coloured coat, he had a huge ruff which framed his strong broad head, his ears were medium in size and placed wide, he had almost round deep sapphire blue eyes with such a gentle expression,  good width to his cheeks, firm muzzle, good depth of chin and a medium length nose with just a slight dip in his profile. He was a very handsome lad with such a gentle disposition and he was presented in A1 condition.

2.  BALHARRIE’S   UK GR PR  HOLLYMOON ROCKERFELLA – 13c1, 19.03.1996.   This very well known Seal Point lad looked amazing today, 11½ year old and he still oozed quality and style and was unlucky to meet the winner of this class.  He had super type and balance with a very handsome facial expression, the most amazing deep blue eyes, set just of the round, lovely ear placement, good width to his cheeks and a firm chin.  He had a large and well covered body with very good bone to his legs and a very full proportionate tail.  He was dressed in a moderately full coat with a small ruff, there was some surface shading to his body fur  but it was pale beige at the roots, his points colouring was a lovely seal brown giving wonderful contrasts.  His well marked feet were sparkling white and his overall presentation could not be faulted.  His temperament as always was superb, such a gentleman and a great pleasure to judge.

SEAL POINT BIRMAN ADULT FEMALE

1.  ENSOR’S   CH KHATIJEM JUSTADREAM – 13c1, 12.06.2004.   A really pretty girl with lovely head type and heart shaped face, well placed medium sized ears, almost round, expressive eyes, two tone blue in colour, very good nose length with just a slight bump to an otherwise good profile, good width to her cheeks and muzzle and showing a good depth of chin.  She had a proportionate and weighty body, good boning to her legs and a balanced tail.  She was dressed in a lovely full coat with a large ruff that framed her pretty face and she had a good depth and uniformity of colour to points, her soft, silky coat showed a little surface shading but it was full and well prepared.  Her front gloves were low and scalloped, her socks matched, she had long gauntlets the left one marginally narrower.  She was shown in excellent condition and she had a super temperament.

BLUE POINT BIRMAN ADULT FEMALE

1.  ENSOR’S  CH KITTAH THALIA – 13c2, 04.07.2005   She was a most gorgeous girl of super type with a lovely gentle expression to her deep sapphire blue eyes that were just off the round.  She had a broad head with plenty of width to her cheeks and muzzle and a good depth of chin with a medium length nose and slight dip to her profile, her ears were triangular in shape medium in size and set wide on her head.  She had very good bone and body length, a full tail that could have been a touch longer, she had lovely white feet, her front gloves matched, the socks almost matched, the left just dipping below the angle formed by joint of the foot and she had lengthy tapered gauntlets, the left one slightly narrower. Dressed in a full coat that had a slightly golden tinge rather than being glacial in tone but it was very soft and well prepared and her mid-blue points gave very good contrasts to her body colour.  She was in lovely condition she had a super nature and she was very well shown.

AC TABBY OR TORTIE TABBY POINT ADULT FEMALE

1.  HARRISON’S  CLOUDYFOLD TIPPYTOES –13c16, 17.07.2004.   A lovely Seal Tortie Tabby Point girl of very nice type, she had a pretty expression and good width to her head with nice fullness and width to her cheeks, she had lovely eye shape, colour and expression, a medium length nose with a slight dip in profile, good width to her muzzle and a firm tapered chin. She had a nicely constructed body, a balanced well furnished tail, with good boning to her medium length legs.  Her gloves were short but they almost matched, almost matching socks, she had three quarter length gauntlets that were quite narrow.  She had very good tortie/tabby definition to her points but I would have preferred them with a little more warmth, although she did show some red to the centre of her mask, muzzle and ears, her legs and tail were somewhat colder in tone. She had a moderately full coat that had ghost tortie/tabby shading to her body, but it was quite soft and well prepared. She was a sweet little girl with a nice temperament.

She had a lovely soft coat with developing chocolate tabby points, her mask showed the required ‘m’,  spectacles, cheeks lines, spotted whisker pads,  a little ginger tipped nose with a brick nose leather and she had milk chocolate coloured ears, the tabby markings on her legs and tail were a little diffuse but they did have bars and rings.  She was a dear little kitten with the sweetest nature and she was very well shown

HANDSOMEST MALE ADULT OR KITTEN

1.  LEWIS’S  MR TIGGA. (MN) – 1 year old.  A very handsome lad with an alert expression and such an outgoing personality, He had a large, muscular frame with long legs and a long ringed tail, He had a beautiful glossy coat with a striking tabby pattern.  He had a triangular head shape with large upright ears, the most expressive bright green eyes, a rusty coloured nose and lovely long whiskers. He was such a character he never stopped chatting even when he was put back in his pen.  He obviously loved the attention and conversing with the public, so I wasn’t at all surprised when he was voted the peoples choice later in the day.  Mr Tigga was certainly a charismatic character with a delightful temperament who was shown in first class condition.

PRETTIEST FEMALE ADULT OR KITTEN

1.  LEWIS’S  - M  C  GYPSY (FN)  2 years old.

Gypsy was a shy little girl but she was certainly very pretty with such lovely expression to her yellowy/ green eyes, she had a lovely head shape with large ears giving her an alert look. She had a beautiful coat with lovely markings, although I couldn’t quite make up my mind as to whether she was a blue tabby & white  or a dilute tortie tabby & white as she had what looked like cream areas to her coat, especially a cream spot on her bib, the pattern though was well defined and her white areas sparkled. She was quite weighty with strong limbs and a thick bushy tail. She was beautifully shown and she was in excellent condition.

AC VETERAN

He had a soft glossy coat with a striking mackerel tabby pattern, consisting of a lovely warm ground colour and beautiful black markings.
